Hi fellow computer user and internet surfer, I've being troubleshooting computers since Windows 95, and here are some of my secrets to keep a computer clean from Malwares, Spywares, Viruses, or any other unwanted software, easy and free.
The softwares I've mentioned here are Free, and will provide a basic protection. However If you have a lot of family members that uses your computer, I really recommend paying for the pro editions of those softwares. Pro editions will have real time protection which is better.

Hi fellow computer user and internet surfer, I've being troubleshooting computers since Windows 95, and here are some of my secrets to keep a computer clean from Malwares, Spywares, Viruses, or any other unwanted software, easy and free.
Steps
1. Uninstall any anti-virus that has a trial or expired date (They only work for that time and then you'll be out on your own) then reboot the PC.
2. All of the softwares that I will mention here are available for free in websites like:
www.filehippo.com (My Favorite)
or
www.download.cnet.com
3. Download and install Avast anti-virus, Avira anti-virus or AVG anti-virus 2011, update it and scan the computer to see if there is no traces of any virus in the system.
4. Download and install Superantispyware free edition, update it and run scanner to see for traces also of spywares or malwares.
5. Download and install CCleaner, run just 2 steps
a. The Cleaner, in order to clean any traces of old or obsolete programs and viruses.
b. The Registry Cleaner (performing a registry backup just in case something goes wrong).
6. Download and install Spybot Search & Destroy, update it and scan the PC, also perform the immunization process to prevent bad pages to enter and malwares to install again on Your PC.
7. Download and install Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or any other web browser of your preference just in case Internet Explorer is not working anymore or having any sort of problem.
8. Download and install an alternative to the Windows Defragment Tool. Some good alternatives are: Auslogics Disk Defrag or Defraggler, then run it to re-group all the files in your hard drive, and the PC will start to perform better.
9. Finally create a System Restore Point after you've completed the previous 8 steps.
After performing all these steps, you will have a better performing, and better
protected PC or Laptop. I've done this several times, and every
